Linux on the desktop?

Patrick Gray was recently quoted in Computerworld magazine discussing the lack of adoption of the Linux operating system for desktop computing. While Linux has enjoyed great success in the server room and embedded devices, few corporations or public entities use the OS on their desktop, despite the allure of "free" software.
